Parents are responsible for making sure that students adhere to the proper dress code. Parents will be called to bring a change of clothes if the student is not dressed appropriately.
To minimize loss, all items must be clearly marked with the student’s name. Please mark the inside tag with the student’s name. The uniform should be clean and pressed with all buttons attached and hems intact. Shirttails are to be tucked in while a student is at school. Belts may be brown or black. STUDENTS MAY ONLY WEAR PLAIN WHITE T- SHIRTS under their blouses or shirts.
St. Joseph School Uniform Guidelines Pre-K to Grade 8
All students should have hair that is neat and clean with bangs above the eyebrows. Boys’ hair should be above and not touch the shirt collar and trimmed around the ears. Extreme hair coloring (not the student’s natural color) and bleaching and hair extensions are not permitted.
➢ No beads or scarves should be worn in the hair. Girls may wear simple barrettes or plain headbands that are no more than 2″ wide (no oversized flowers, bows or beading).
➢ No cosmetics, lip gloss, colored Chapstick, nail polish, or artificial nails may be worn.
➢ No visible tattoos of any kind;
➢ No Hologram contact lenses;
➢ No body piercing except pierced ears. Girls may wear one pair of stud earrings not larger than a dime. Hoops and Dangling Earrings ARE NOT permitted as they present a safety hazard. Boys may not wear earrings of any type.
➢ Jewelry should be limited to one watch, one ring, one bracelet and simple crosses or holy medals
on a narrow silver or gold chain. Smartwatches and Fitbits are not jewelry and are not to be worn in school.
The COMPLETE UNIFORM IS WORN TO AND FROM SCHOOL. Belts must be worn by students in grades 2-8 when wearing uniform pants or shorts. Uniform shirts and blouses can be either short-sleeve or long-sleeve. Uniform shirts, blouses, and polo shirts are to be tucked in at all times.
UNIFORM JUMPERS, SKIRTS, AND SKORTS SHOULD BE THE PROPER LENGTH, WHICH IS NO MORE THAN THREE (3) INCHES ABOVE THE KNEE.
Cargo pants/shorts, non-uniform sweatshirts, snow boots or fashion boots are not to be worn in the classroom.

Uniform Shoes
All students: Uniform shoes should be solid color dress shoes (black or dark brown only) or solid black leather/synthetic leather uniform sneakers. Please note that the ENTIRE sneaker must be black. This includes any logos on the sneaker as well as its sole. Oxfords, loafers, Docksiders, and Mary Jane styles are acceptable.
The following is not permitted:
- Ballet Flats
- Sandals
- Open-back Shoes
- High-top sneakers
- Any type of shoe that resembles a ennis sneakers
- Sneakers that convert to roller blades
- Sneakers that light-up
- Canvas or mesh sneakers
- Hiking shoes
- Boots
- ‘Uggs”
- Shoes with a heel over 1 ½ inches (measured from the back exterior of the shoe)

A separate pair of sneakers is required for gym days. These sneakers MUST have non-marking soles. THEY DO NOT NEED TO BE BLACK. The sneakers will be stored at school and used during gym classes that are held in our new gymnasium. For younger students that are unable to tie their own shoes, we recommend velcro sneakers to expedite the changing process. No street shoes will be allowed on the new gymnasium floor.
Formal Uniform
The Formal Uniform is worn for church services and special events. If a student is not in formal uniform on these days, a Dress Code Violation notice will be issued and parents will be called to bring the appropriate uniform to school.
Boys’ Grades K-7: white shirt, khaki pants and a belt, plaid tie, uniform dress shoes
Boys’ Grades 8: white shirt, khaki pants and a belt, plaid tie, uniform dress shoes, navy blue blazer (optional)
Girls’ Grades K-4: white blouse, jumper, uniform dress shoes
Girls’ Grades 5-7: white blouse, plaid skirt, plaid criss-cross tie, uniform dress shoes
Girls’ Grade 8: white blouse, plaid skirt, plaid criss-cross tie, uniform dress shoes, navy blue blazer (optional)
Gym Uniform
The Gym Uniform is always worn by ALL students for gym class, field trips, and special events at the discretion of the principal. The school gym uniform consists of red t-shirt, navy blue gym shorts, red sweatshirt and navy sweatpants. All items must be imprinted with the school logo. Any sneaker can be worn.
Pre-K Uniform
The Gym Uniform is always worn by ALL Pre-K students. The school gym uniform consists of red t-shirt, navy blue gym shorts, red sweatshirt and navy blue sweatpants. All items must be imprinted with the school logo. Any sneaker can be worn. Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines above regarding accessories.
Warm Weather Uniforms
Warm weather uniforms are worn from the first day of school through October 31st and from April 1st through the last day of school. DURING WARM WEATHER, SWEATERS, SWEATSHIRTS, AND JACKETS ARE NOT WORN IN THE CLASSROOM; STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO REMOVE THEM.

Out of Uniform Policy
The opportunity to come to school out of uniform is a privilege that should be respected. At the principal’s discretion, certain days throughout the school year may be designated as “Out of Uniform” days (examples: student’s birthday, SJS Spirit Day, New England Professional Sports Championships).
PARENTS WILL BE CALLED TO BRING A CHANGE OF CLOTHES AND ANY STUDENT WHO FAILS TO COMPLY WITH THE OUT OF UNIFORM GUIDELINES STATED BELOW WILL LOSE THE PRIVILEGE OF OUT OF UNIFORM DAYS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
Students may wear:
✓ leggings only if worn with a tunic length top providing appropriate coverage
✓ jeans only if neat and clean, have no holes, are not too baggy/too tight
✓ tennis shoes
✓ short socks
✓ uniform length shorts or capris
✓ uniform length skirts/skorts
**Please note that uniform length is no more than three inches above the knee.
Students may not wear:
