It has been a tradition since 2003 that during the celebration of Catholic Schools Week, St. Joseph School presents a special “Partners in Education” award to a person or persons who’ve made a significant impact on the school community. This year we are pleased to present this award to Mrs. Mary Ann Weaver and Mrs. Donna Recko.
Mrs. Weaver has been an educator at St. Joseph School for 38 years. She is the 8th Grade Home Room teacher as well as the Grade 6-8 Literature teacher and Grade 8 Religion and Social Studies instructor. Previously, she taught Grade 6 for 16 years. Mrs. Weaver strives to challenge each student to become an active learner by instilling a desire to use their skills of investigation and providing a variety of learning options to accommodate the differences in how they learn. As advisor to the Student Council and the Grade 7 and 8 Food Share Volunteers, Mrs. Weaver promotes serving God by serving others in the school, parish, and local communities.
Mrs. Recko has been an educator at St. Joseph School for 36 years. She is the 3rd Grade Home Room teacher and Assistant Athletic Director. Although most of her time has been spent teaching in the 3rd grade, she has also taught preschool, 1st Grade Science and Social Studies, and 4th Grade Language Arts. Her interaction with students continues outside of her 3rd Grade Classroom, as she supervises the Homework Room daily. As the Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Cheerleading Coach, Mrs. Recko enjoys watching and helping the children grow, not only in their athletic ability, but to become positive role models displaying good sportsmanship and showing respect for others.
The awards were presented to Mrs. Weaver and Mrs. Recko by Bishop Robert McManus. On behalf of the St. Joseph School family, we extend our congratulations to these two special ladies! May they enjoy many of God’s blessings in their ministry to serve St. Joseph School and Parish.
