Saint Joseph School was buzzing with unique learning experiences and excitement this past week, starting with the captivating Band and Strings Demonstration Assembly. Band Director Mr. Charlie Cook introduced a variety of instruments they can learn through the school’s band program to students in Grades 1-8. The demonstrations featured woodwind instruments like the flute, clarinet, and saxophone; brass instruments, including the trumpet and trombone; and percussion instruments. The strings program also showcased the elegant violin. Playing a musical instrument offers a myriad of benefits to students, including improved memory, enhanced coordination, and the development of discipline and patience. Moreover, students gain confidence performing in front of an audience and experience the joy of creating music with others.

Later in the week, the Saint Joseph School First Lego League Robotics season kicked off with its first team meeting. This year’s challenge, themed “Submerged,” tasks students with researching real-world issues related to working in the ocean and developing an innovative solution. Through the robotics program, students not only strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also work collaboratively, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork. This collaborative spirit is a fantastic way for young minds to engage with hands-on learning and creativity while tackling significant global challenges.

Finally, Grades 1-8 students gathered for their weekly Friday Mass. The third Friday of each month is unique and called “Fridays with Father.” During this Mass, either Fr. Gregory or Fr. Tony takes time to answer questions submitted in advance by students. These questions can be related to the church or help the students get to know the priests more personally. This past Friday, students asked Fr. Gregory what it was like to grow up in Poland, who the most important saint is, and when and by whom Saint Joseph Church and School were founded. This personal interaction fosters a deeper connection to the church community, enhances students’ understanding of their faith, and promotes open communication between students and their spiritual leaders, leaving them with a sense of enlightenment and connection.

Saint Joseph School continues to thrive with opportunities for students to grow spiritually, academically, and creatively.
