On Monday, April 8th, there will be a total sun eclipse. This is a rare astronomical event where the moon completely covers the sun, casting a shadow on the Earth. It will begin at approximately 2:00 p.m. and last until about 4:30 p.m. During this time, it is important to avoid looking directly at the sun as it can cause serious eye damage.

Due to safety concerns, Saint Joseph School will dismiss students 30 minutes earlier than usual. Therefore, the dismissal schedule will be as follows:

  • 1:45 p.m. – PreK students
  • 1:50 p.m. – Kindergarten – Grade 4
  • 1:55 p.m. – Grades 5 – 8

In addition, students who attend the Extended Day Program with Our Bright Future will NOT be allowed to go outside to view the eclipse. Viewing the sun without specialized equipment is not safe and could damage eyesight.

The bus schedule for Webster students will remain the same. Therefore, they will stay in the building until their bus arrives outside. While walking from the school to the bus, they will be reminded to look at the sun. This is to ensure they are aware of the potential danger and can avoid looking directly at the sun.

In addition, as the eclipse will coincide with students’ departure from the Extended Day Program, we kindly ask parents and guardians to play a crucial role in reminding students not to look at the sun. Your vigilance during pick-up and on the way to your vehicles is not just appreciated, but it is also crucial for the safety of our students. We deeply value your partnership with us in this matter.

We deeply appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Your partnership with us in ensuring the safety of our students is invaluable. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to working together for the well-being of our students.
