On Wednesday, October 5th, Saint Joseph School students, faculty, and staff gathered in the Nowak Gymnasium to celebrate September accomplishments and enjoy a friendly competition. In addition, every student with a September birthday received a new book from the school. In addition, First Grade instructor Mrs. Kayla Maynard and Seventh Grade instructor Mrs. Karen Lefebvre received flowers for having birthdays in September.

Following the announcement of September Birthdays, Saint Joseph School Principal, Mrs. Beth Boudreau, recognized the September “Students of the Month.” Students are awarded “Student of the Month” for their outstanding exemplification of Religion, Respect, and Responsibility. Saint Joseph School September “Students of the Month” are Pre-K 3-year-old (2-Day Program): Pheobe Anobah, Pre-K 3-year-old (3-Day Program): Lyanna Poirier, Pre-K 4-year-old: Nina Rudnicki, Kindergarten: Joseph Jusseaume, Grade 1: Amalina Khozami, Grade 2: Julia Biela, Grade 3: Jayden Agosto, Grade 4: Lucas Stock, Grade 5: Mychael Jones, Grade 6: Faith Muga, Grade 7: Molly Hachigian. And Grade 8: Vanessa Zeglen.

During September, a Saint Joseph School student in each grade also had the opportunity to earn a special “99% Perspiration Award” for their willingness to put in the hard work. Those students were also recognized during the assembly. The recipients of the “99% Perspiration Award” are Pre-K 3-year-old: Gianna Dowd, Pre-K 4-year-old: Charlotte Wasgatt, Kindergarten: Kamila Biela, Grade 1: Victoria Czechowski, Grade 2: Julian Gibbons, Grade 3: Charlotte Calnan, Grade 4: Deven Worth, Grade 5: Mackenzie Openshaw, Grade 6: Luke Surowaniec, Grade 7: Ryan Grupposo, and Grade 8: Brett McCarthy. The theme of each special award will change each month. Additional certificates were awarded to students who represented their classes by attending the September and October Family Masses. Saint Joseph School students who participate in Sunday Family Masses will also be treated to a breakfast with Mrs. Boudreau and Dean of Students Mr. Jeffrey Grupposo.

The assembly culminated with a fun game during which two students from each grade represented their peers and earned bragging rights for their class. With the assistance of their teachers, one student from each class had their arms duct taped to their sides. This game was fun because the sticky part of the duct tape faced outward. After the duct tape was in place, hundreds of playing cards were strewn over the gym floor, and each competitor was assisted to the floor by their classmate. Then, on the start signal, they had to roll around the floor and “pick up” as many playing cards as possible by getting them to stick to the duct tape. During the competition, there was lots of encouragement, cheers, and laughter from their classmates. All the competitors were great sports! The team from Grade 6 finished in First Place with 45 cards stuck to the tape, the Grade 8 team finished in Second Place with 43 cards, and Grade 1 finished in Third Place with 36 cards. Everyone loved the game! Even First Grade teacher, Mrs. Kayla Maynard, represented the staff in the friendly competition.

The monthly assemblies will continue throughout the year so students can be recognized for their accomplishments and allowed to compete in fun, friendly games that encourage teamwork and laughter. Please visit the school’s website www.sjs-webster.com to view the video of the assembly.
