On Friday, May 14th, Ms. Kelly Bailey’s Fifth Grade students and Mrs. Karen Lefebvre’s Sixth Grade Language Arts students presented the Living Wax Museum at St. Joseph School. The Living Wax Museum is an annual two-part project that focuses on reading biographies and presenting their book reports in a unique way. Each student must dress up as the person they are portraying and speak as that person. Key points they need to know include the person’s birth date, details about their childhood, and how they contributed to our society.
Due to social distancing requirements, the 2021 Living Wax Museum took place outside on the lawn surrounding St. Joseph Basilica and rectory. The event was attended by parents and fellow St. Joseph School Students. Visitors approached the statuesque figures and were required to step into rings placed on the ground six feet away from each student. Once a visitor stood in a student’s circle, the figure came to life and began their presentation. “It is their favorite report of the year,” said Ms. Bailey, “the students not only love being part of the museum but visiting it as well.” This year, the Sixth-Grade students also participated in the Living Wax Museum because they could not do so last year due to the pandemic.
Living wax figures included Jacques Cousteau, Dak Prescott, Cristiano Ronaldo, Amelia Earhart, Malala Yousafzai, N’Golo Kante, Susie King Taylor, Markus Persson, Selena Quintanilla, Violet Jessop, Lebron James, Mohamed Salah, Clara Barton, John Lewis, Neil Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Oprah Winfrey, Anne Frank, Helen Keller, Jane Goodall, Henry Ford, Chloe Kim, Russell Wilson, Princess Diana, Pele, John F. Kennedy, Marley Dias, Elizabeth Stanton, Kobe Bryant, and Katy Perry. It was certainly an educational experience for all who attended and participated!
